Chapter 2 Assignments

REQUIRED from the Workbook

In all these exercises, read the questions in the workbook, but you don't have to answer them specifically. Just keep them in mind.

• Assignment No. 3 (pages 9 - 10) Folk Tune: "The Ashgrove"
• Assignment No. 4 (page 11) Chopin: Nocturne in F Minor as indicated in the instructions.
• Assignment No. 5 (pages 13 - 14) Bellini: Casta Diva.

OPTIONAL from the Textbook (for extra credit) (scores are linked)

Mozart: Variations on a Theme by Duport, K. 573, Theme

Prepare a reduction on two staves, by blocking the LH chords, and reducing out melodic figurations in the RH part. On a separate staff above the reduction, indicate the structural melodic motion.

Mozart: Fantasy in C Minor, K. 475 (measures 1 - 4)

Prepare a melodic reduction, showing clearly the implied two-voice texture of the melody. I suggest a separate reduction which shows the structural notes, although you can use stems and beams on the original reduction for that purpose.
