Chapter 3 Assignments

REQUIRED in the Workbook

Assignment No. 6 (pages 15 - 16) as indicated in the instructions. NOTE that it's best to analyze in 8-measure phrases instead of the usual 4.

Assignment No. 8 (pages 19 - 21) as indicated in the instructions. As always, the questions are only guides; don't feel you have to answer them specifically.

REQUIRED: Any one of the pieces linked below. For each piece:

Prepare an imaginary continuo on two staves
Provide a complete harmonic analysis of your imaginary continuo
On a staff below, indicate:

T and its prolongation
"int" and its prolongation (if any)
D and its prolongation (if any)

Also be sure to indicate any dividing dominants, neighboring harmonies, plus any other items you consider worthy of mention.

Mozart: Piano Sonata, K. 570, II, measures 1 - 4
Beethoven: Piano Sonata, Op. 14 No. 2, measures 1 - 8
Brahms: Waltz Op. 39 No. 2 (complete)
Beethoven: Piano Sonata, Op. 10 No. 3, II, measures 1 - 9
Mozart: Piano Sonata, K. 333, III, measures 1 - 16
Beethoven: Piano Sonata, Op. 14 No. 2, II, measures 1 - 20 (imaginary continuo not needed)
Bach: St. Matthew Passion, "Erbarme dich", measures 1 - 8
Beethoven: Piano Sonata, Op. 26, III, measures - 21
Handel: Keyboard Suite No. 7, Sarabande (complete)


OPTIONAL (for extra credit)
